I started playing the drums at the age of 12 and just like most people starting out, it was for the fun of it. Never did I think it would turn out to be my career!
Throughout my teenage years I literally played every day! I played in a number of bands, some big, some small and spent a great deal of time in the studio.
At the age of 17, I started teaching and this was when my skills and passion for drums really took off. I realised teaching was something I absolutely loved! Alongside this, I also obtained an NQF5 in engineering, as working in the studio was the other great passion of mine.
I immersed myself in learning and did my Grade 8 in Drums and by the age of 24, decided to take on the adventure of starting my own business - Legacy School of Music - with my good friend Natalie.
We decided that Legacy would be a great name for our school. Imparting skills and inspiring passion in our young and old students alike, really became our ethos and what we love to do!
It was at this point that I began to flourish as a musician. In control of my own opportunities and my own destiny.
What really started to resonate with me was what Mike Johnston said about Teaching.
‘Some musicians love the stage, some love to teach’.
I realised that teaching was really my calling and although I do enjoy performing and have had great opportunities to work with some of the best musicians and play on some of the biggest stages in the country, teaching is really where my passion lies.
Over my 15 years (and counting) of teaching, I have developed my own unique methods for training and developing students and am proud to use these skills daily to inspire my students to reach their full potential!
